Isla de la Plata

Isla de la Plata is an island located off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, known as the poor mans Galapagos, it has gained this name due to the similarities of the flora and fauna between the islands, but the difference in the price of visiting the different islands is huge.

The island was once settled some years back. The settlers brought domestics cats with them to keep rats out of their dwellings. But the settlers did not stay and when they departed they left the cats behind.

The cats are now a threat to the local fauna, preying on the eggs and hatchlings of several bird species. And are reproducing. In order to stop this the WCF intends to support a veterinarian to travel to the island and castrate the cats.

The island has a lot of intrinsic value, due to the affordability for local Ecuadorians to visit it and learn about its unique flora and fauna while the Galapagos are very expensive for the average Ecuadorian.
